Doctor Who began in 1963. Within a year it had started to spawn comics, novellas, give-a-show projector slides… and it never stopped spawning. Even whilst the show was temporarily off air, the offshoots never stopped.
Whilst the TV show (usually) strived to offer high quality, well thought out and plausible drama, the spin offs never felt as though they had to stick to these rigid rules. Talking cows on the moon? Sure, why not. A Doctor who’s happy to kill people (and monsters) without hesitation? Yeah, we can do that. Changing the Quarks from being rather lame servants on the TV to being galaxy conquering villains in their own right? Absolutely! And that’s just in the comics. There’s a whole universe of annual stories, choose your own adventures, educational books, sweet wrappers to delve into and even more besides.
That’s where this site comes in. There are loads of sites out there telling you who played who in which TV stories. Lots of places to tell you which episodes to watch and which ones have which continuity errors in them. Very few are willing to take a step outside of all of that, not many are brave enough to look beyond the traditionally accepted canon. Many years ago I started a site called “Stripping Down” which aimed to catelogue the comics but I became too busy to keep it going. However, I kept all the information I put together for it and it’s now back, along with information on the annuals, the holiday specials and anything else that tells a story about a certain time traveller…
The stories are often mad. They’re usually weird beyond belief. It’s total lunacy in their world…
…and it’s total Whonacy in here….
